CBD
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of many cannabinoids, or molecules, produced uniquely by the cannabis family of plants.
What’s the difference between an isolate, broad spectrum hemp extract, and full spectrum hemp extract?
- CBD isolate is a type of CBD supplement that extracts the compound CBD in its most pure form. It contains 99% CBD and does not contain any other cannabinoids, terpenes or THC.
- Broad spectrum hemp extract means that during the extraction process, CBD and other compounds like terpenes, found within the plant are preserved, but the THC is completely removed.
- Full Spectrum hemp extract is a full plant extract that leaves the complete plant profile in the extracted CBD product. It contains a trace amount of THC, other core cannabinoids, and a full terpene profile.
A full spectrum hemp extract contains the full spectrum of cannabinoids, terpenes, and essential oils extracted from the industrial hemp plant. These compounds work together to magnify the therapeutic benefits of each individual cannabinoid. Although more research is required to confirm some uses of CBD, it is shaping up as a potentially promising and versatile treatment. The complete profile of compounds can be beneficial for the body, improving general health in addition to more specific benefits.
How does CBD work?
CBD leverages the endocannabinoid system to have a positive effect on several molecular signaling systems.
What is the endocannabinoid system?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the vertebrate central nervous system and peripheral nervous system.
Two primary endocannabinoid receptors have been identified: CB1, first cloned in 1990; and CB2, cloned in 1993. CB1 receptors are found predominantly in the brain and nervous system, as well as in peripheral organs and tissues, and are the main molecular target of the endocannabinoid ligand (binding molecule), anandamide as well as its mimetic phytocannabinoid,THC.
Can CBD get you high?
CBD is a non-psychoactive compound in the hemp plant. It does not cause the "head high" associated with marijuana.
Will I test positive on a drug test if I drink Performance Tea?
Our Full Spectrum Hemp extract CBD blends have a combination of cannabinoids, including CBD, CBG, CBN, Terpenes and THC. Our blends test at between .02% and .04% THC which is between .4 and .8 mg/g of THC per serving. This is significantly lower than the legal limit of .3% THC or 3 mg/g in hemp derived CBD products.
Using the standard serving size is highly unlikely to test positive for THC and/or THC-COOH. Ultimately, though, each consumer needs to be fully informed of the specific regulations posed by their employers and adjust their consumption of cannabinoid products accordingly.
How much should I use? (varies by person but 1 serving is 20 mg CBD)
Our standard dosage is 20mg of Full Spectrum hemp extract per 2 grams of our powdered blends. Everyone has a different tolerance level to CBD, just like everyone has a different tolerance level to caffeine, so it can vary quite significantly. We suggest trying our standard dose and adjusting from there.

Adaptogens are a class of herbs that help our body adapt to stress whether it be physical or mental stress. Adaptogens can be mushrooms, herbs, and roots.
General
Why won’t the tea dissolve completely?
Just like any powder combined with water our blends need a little bit of shaking and stirring to get it to dissolve completely. Nature works against us a bit and since oil and water don’t mix easily and since we don’t put any additives in our teas it is possible to have a bit of residual powder in your glass.
Is Performance Tea organic?
We are working on it! Some of our ingredients are organic and some we are in the process of switching over.
Where are the ingredients sourced from?
Our priority with all of our products is quality. We source our herbs from a U.S. based herb processing facility. They operate under GMP certified manufacturing facility and utilize on-site laboratories providing microbial testing and process millions of pounds of herbs annually. They adhere to Chinese Pharmacopeia guidelines and utilize 3rd party testing for quality control.
Is the tea caffeinated?

What is hemp extract?
Hemp Extract is the total amount of phytocannabinoids and plant matter.
What are adaptogens?
Adaptogens are herbs that help us respond positively to stress. They decrease our fragility and allow us to adapt to challenges by enhancing our durability. The powerful aspects of herbs that help us adapt are that they can help regulate and move our complex physical systems in multiple, synergistic ways to help us achieve optimal performance.
Our physical bodies and nervous systems evolved in prehistoric times where the stressful event of the day was evading a predator or ramping up to the thrill of the hunt. These stressful moments were short-lived. The neuroendocrine cascade of stress hormones that were created in these situations were temporary and promoted the “fight or flight” reaction that was crucial to our survival.
As a result our nervous system is programmed to respond to every ping of a cellphone, emails in all CAPS, and bad drivers as if they were a mountain lion on the ridge. Our sympathetic nervous system is on constant alert from all the inputs that are designed to capture our attention. Even our recreation, whether mountain biking or skiing, can amp up this response.
When the “fight or flight” never turns off and does not allow the parasympathetic “rest and repose” to balance things out, a detrimental precipitation happens from all the excess stress hormone (cortisol) on board. This suppresses our digestion, compromises our immunity, and slows down our body’s ability to recover from inflammation and injury. Over time, the entire nervous system and hormonal balance can be injured.
Sometimes, some good downtime or a vacation is enough to reset the balance, but that is not always enough or even possible. Elite athletes, entrepreneurs, and the hard-working modern individual do not always have enough recuperation time. This is when we need adaptogens to balance our system.
Adaptogens have been used for millennia in traditional Eastern medicine. The term was coined in the 1940’s by researchers in the Soviet Union in their goal to find a way to make super soldiers and super athletes. They looked for herbs that could be used for long-term use and that had no side effects or toxicity. They wanted herbs that increased resistance to cognitive and physical stress while allowing the body to train to higher levels of human performance. They found them and successfully trained with them. In modern times, research has demonstrated the positive effects of adaptogens.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are a group of fatty compounds found in hemp but also produced by other plants and the human body. They are the primary chemical compounds produced by the cannabis plant. These compounds are key players in normal immune and central nervous system functioning. There are more than 80 identified cannabinoids. A system within the human body called the endocannabinoid system (ECS) has receptors that these compounds fit into, using cannabinoids to support cells and healthy immune system function, despite fluctuations in our external environment.* Hemp produces more than 80 different phytocannabinoids naturally. Of the 80+ non-psychoactive phytocannabinoids, Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most widely known. Others include Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabichromene (CBC) & more.
What is the endocannabinoid system?
Phytocannabinoids work with the mammalian Endocannabinoid System (ECS), which is a vast receptor system that helps support homeostasis and health.* This receptor system exists in the immune system, the central nervous system, and within many organs. The ECS accepts our bodies' own endocannabinoids as well as the phytocannabinoids found in hemp.
The ECS is designed to support cells and healthy immune system function, despite fluctuations in our external environment. A human's endocannabinoid system affects many regions of the body, including functions of the immune system, the central nervous system (including the brain), organs, connective tissue, and glands. The ECS supports various biological tasks, including energy & balance, immune function, memory, metabolism, sleep, and the function of the autonomic nervous system.
A phytocannabinoid is a compound that fits into a phytocannabinoid receptor. Hemp produces over 80 different cannabinoids that work to support the endocannabinoid system.* PT's CBD blend uses a whole-plant extract that includes a range of beneficial compounds found in hemp, including phytocannabinoids and other phyto-compounds (such as terpenes and flavonoids).
What is cannabidiol (cbd)?
Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid. Phytocannabinoids are chemical compounds found in hemp plants. There are over 80 different phytocannabinoids.
Where does performance tea’s cbd come from?
Our CBD is extracted from hemp that has been legally grown as part of the Colorado Industrial Hemp Program. We carefully source our hemp from farmers who are registered with the Colorado Department of Agriculture and in compliance with Colorado law.
Does performance tea’s recovery blend contain thc?
Our CBD is a hemp derived product. It contains only trace amounts of THC.
Will the cbd in recovery tea cause me to fail a drug test?
Much like the consumption of poppy seeds may lead to a positive drug test for opioids, the consumption of certain hemp products may lead to a positive drug test for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is inherently present in trace amounts in hemp plants. The legal limit of THC in hemp is no more than 0.3%. Furthermore, the underlying science behind the conversion of certain cannabinoids, for example cannabidiol (CBD), when consumed, to other related cannabinoids, for example THC, is not yet fully understood. Although the risk is low, individual biochemistry, the possibility of conversion of cannabinoids and the possibility of trace, but legal, amounts of THC inherent in hemp products, we strongly suggest consulting your health care provider before consuming any hemp products if you are subject to drug testing.
